What goes on a roofing invoice

Four details make this a roofing invoice rather than a generic one. Each has its number in the sample’s margin, from the top of the page down.

    License, bond and certification

    The roofing license, the bond number, and a line for a manufacturer certification if you hold one. On a job this size the homeowner, and often their insurer, want to see that the roofer is licensed and bonded, and some extended shingle warranties depend on the certification.

    Measured in squares

    The plan gives the roof face by face in squares of 100 square feet, adding up to the 24 that the tear-off and shingle lines bill. The ridge is the 40 feet of ridge vent, and the grey band is where the ice and water shield went: every line priced by the square or the foot can be checked against the drawing.

    Shingle, color and warranty

    GAF Timberline HDZ, in Charcoal. The product line is what the manufacturer’s warranty is registered against, and the color is what the homeowner needs to match a repair in ten years. The warranty itself is in the terms at the bottom.

What should a roofing invoice include?

A roofing invoice should include the roof’s size in squares, the shingle’s brand, model and color, the underlayment, the number of layers torn off, any decking repairs, flashing details, warranty information, the permit number, and your contractor license and bond.

How do I handle change orders for hidden damage?

Price it before tear-off: put a per-sheet price for decking in the contract, so an approval on the day is a count, not a negotiation. When you find the damage, photograph it and get the homeowner’s approval in writing. On the invoice, show the contract price, then the change order as its own line with the count and the per-sheet price, and the new total.

Should roofing invoices include warranty details?

Yes, with the two warranties kept apart, because different people stand behind them. The manufacturer’s warranty covers the shingles, and its longer terms often start only once the roof is registered with the manufacturer. Your workmanship warranty covers the installation, for as long as you state. Name each one with its length, and note on the invoice whether the roof has been registered and who registered it.
