What goes on a landscaping estimate

A landscaping estimate needs a scaled plan for the larger projects, a plant list by common and botanical name, a priced maintenance schedule and a plant guarantee. Those are the lines this template adds to the scope, materials, timeline, labor and terms any estimate has (explained in what a service estimate needs), and each is explained below in the order it appears on the estimate.

   A scaled plan for the larger projects

   For the larger projects, attach a scaled drawing or plan. A paver patio, a six-zone irrigation layout or a front-yard redesign is hard to agree on in words; a plan drawn to scale shows where everything goes and how big it is, and the customer signs off on the same picture you build from. The sample ticks “Scaled plan attached”.

   Price the projects as ranges, each with its work in a line. The landscaping sample quotes a 400 sq ft paver patio at $4,800–$7,200, a six-zone sprinkler system with its backflow preventer and permit at $3,500–$5,500, and a front-yard redesign at $5,000–$12,000. The redesign has the widest range because its plants and materials are still to be chosen; the plant list under the projects is where it narrows.

   List every plant by its common and its botanical name, with its size and quantity. Common names vary from place to place; the botanical name is the one plant you mean, and the size sets the price. The sample’s list starts with the flowers from its materials — annuals in 4-inch pots, 24 of them. Annuals are chosen by season, so their botanical names are left to fill in when you choose.

The second job on this sample is that schedule, itemized line by line — one month of maintenance (four visits): $575.00 of labor and $271.00 of materials, $846.00 for the month, quoted apart from the projects above.

   How long the plants are guaranteed

   5.1-year plant replacement guarantee.

   Say how long the plants are guaranteed. A plant can fail in its first season for reasons that have nothing to do with the customer, and the guarantee says what you will replace and for how long. The sample’s term reads “1-year plant replacement guarantee.” — write yours with its conditions, such as the watering the customer agrees to.

   Half of the price books the work on the landscaping sample: $423.00 of the $846.00 month of maintenance. For a larger project, such as the patio or the redesign, write a phased payment schedule into the terms instead of a single deposit. Then the customer signs under the plan, the plant list and the one-year guarantee together, and you countersign and date it.
