Sample data: one electrician’s Tuesday and the shop’s other open jobs. Left is what a job billed, less parts and hours on site at $42 an hour.

  1. Tuesday · 7:52 am

    Quoted, with a deposit

The Novaks’ panel upgrade was priced on Monday evening, standing at the meter, and sent as an estimate from the house. At 7:52 on Tuesday they accept it and pay the $1,600 deposit on their phone, so the panel and breakers are ordered before the day the power goes off, and the job goes on the schedule for next Tuesday, all day. The Okafors haven’t answered their subpanel quote, so an automated follow-up goes out instead of a call somebody has to remember to make.

  2. Tuesday · 11:40 am

Fitted into the day, in route order

The charger install has had the electrician since 8:00. At 11:40 a customer calls: the kitchen outlets are dead and the GFCI won’t reset, and the office promises someone by 2. The call goes on the same electrician’s schedule, and route optimization re-orders the rest of the afternoon around it: in at 12:58 pm, every customer’s window kept, the last call done at 4:56 pm. The stop numbers are the new order.

  3. Tuesday · 11:52 am

Timed on site, invoiced from the van

The charger is in at 11:45 am. The electrician’s hours were tracked from the app with GPS time tracking: 3 h 45 min on site, recorded at the house. The invoice goes from the van with the $420 deposit already off, and the homeowner pays the $420 balance by Apple Pay before the van leaves.

  4. Tuesday · 4:59 pm

    Paid the same day

By 4:59 pm the afternoon’s five calls are done, each invoiced from the job. Customers pay on their phones by card, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo or Cash App: four of the five are paid and one invoice is still open. Casa Brava Grill pays last week’s kitchen circuits by card. Every invoice syncs to QuickBooks Online, so none of it is typed in twice.

  5. Tuesday · End of day

    What each job left

Job costing sets what each job cost against what it billed. The charger left $302 of $840. The smoke alarms, three new units on a 45 min call, left $82: the thinnest job on the board, and worth knowing before the next alarm call is priced.

Two shapes of electrical work

Electrical job management has to hold two kinds of work. Larger jobs are quoted first, after someone has opened the panel, and take a deposit before the parts are ordered. Service calls are booked, done and paid the same day. On the board, one starts at the estimate and the other at the schedule; both end invoiced, paid and costed.

Quoted installs

EstDepSchedSiteInvPaid

Panel upgrades, rewiring, EV chargers and lighting at home; building wiring and emergency lighting systems in commercial work; new construction, scheduled across the crew. Each is priced first, often with a deposit: electrical estimate software.

Service calls

EstDepSchedSiteInvPaid

Emergency calls, troubleshooting, outlets and GFCIs, smoke alarms and same-day service, booked by phone or from your online booking page and routed into an electrician’s day: electrician dispatch software.

Electrical job management, answered

What is electrical job management software?
It is the software an electrical business runs each job through, from the estimate to the paid invoice. In Business Genie that is the estimate with a deposit, the schedule, the route, GPS time tracking, job costing, the invoice and the payment, on the web and in the iOS and Android app.
Can electricians track their hours on each job?
Yes. Electricians track time from the app with GPS, so it is recorded on the job, and job costing shows what the job cost to do.
Does electrical job management sync with QuickBooks?
Yes. Invoices sync to QuickBooks Online.

Each stop, in depth

Every stop on the board has its own page. The customer behind each job has a record in electrician CRM software; all of it together for an electrical business is on the electrical contractor software page, every part is in all features, and the plans are on pricing.
