A landscaping company sells three kinds of work, and they come in three lengths. A maintenance visit is half an hour to an hour, weekly or monthly, usually on the same weekday. An enhancement — mulch, pruning, color, a drip repair — takes a crew one to three hours. An install holds a crew at one property for days.
In Business Genie each job goes on the schedule with the crew that does it. The sample week holds 60 jobs for three crews. Put on each day in the order they came in — the visits in the order customers signed up, the enhancements in the order they were sold — it is 13 h 16 min of driving.
Each crew’s day, ordered by the drive
Route optimization orders every crew’s day automatically, by the drive between properties. It keeps how long each job takes and any window a customer asked for — the side yard on Saguaro Blvd opens at 10 am — and it is on every plan.
Routed, the same 60 jobs are 7 h 35 min of driving: 5 h 42 min less in the week. With two to four people in each truck, that is 13 h 46 min of paid crew time. The install crew’s days don’t change; one property all day has nothing to re-order.

Thursday, 9:05 am: a job found on a visit
On the maintenance visit on Juniper Way the crew finds a drip line chewed through, and the customer wants it fixed today.
The job goes on the enhancement crew’s Thursday, and the rest of their day re-routes around it. Juniper Way lies between the granite on Mesa Verde Dr and the mulch on Sycamore St, so that is where the repair goes: they finish Canyon Ridge Dr, then Mesa Verde Dr, and are on Juniper Way at 11:07 am. The drip line runs again by 11:52 am, and the day is done at 2:03 pm.
Sent straight over from Canyon Ridge Dr instead, the crew would be there at 9:37 am, then double back to Mesa Verde Dr before Sycamore St: 18 min more driving, and done at 2:22 pm. Either way the drip line is fixed today, as the customer asked; re-routed, the crew drives less to do it.
Thursday, on each crew lead’s phone
Dispatch the day from the web in the office, or from the iOS and Android app. Each crew lead opens the crew’s properties in the routed order, with turn-by-turn directions to the next one, and the crew clocks in and out with GPS time tracking. New customers can book online instead of calling the office.
