It stops overnight, every property passes its trigger at once, and each business wants its lot and walks clear before it opens. A lot like this is on contract before winter: a price for the season, a price per push that steps up with the depth (2 to 4 inches, 4 to 6), or a price per storm, and a trigger depth, an inch or two for a store, below which the truck does not come. The order of work is set then too, on a site map that marks the stack areas, the drains and the hydrant a pile must never bury, and the curbs a blade can catch under the snow. Two people come on the truck: one plows and salts, the other clears the walks.

Residential plowing
The driveway is plowed in one or two passes and the ridge the city plow left across the end of it is cleared, so the car can get out.
De-icing and salting
The spreader lays salt or treated grit over the cleared pavement, heavier on slopes, at the entrances and in the drive-through lane. It is usually billed per application.
Pre-treating with brine
A day or two before the storm, a tank on the truck sprays salt brine in stripes over the lot and the walks, so the first snow does not bond to the pavement. It is booked from the forecast.
Sidewalk clearing
Walks are judged at the front door: the entrance, the steps and the curb ramps bare before the first employee or customer walks up. Melt that runs off a pile or a roof edge and freezes again brings the walk crew back with salt.
Second push
A return to a property already cleared, because the snow kept falling past the trigger depth. On a per-push contract it is billed as another push.
Commercial lot clearing
A pickup with a plow handles a small lot; a big one gets a skid steer or loader with a pusher box, which moves a whole row of stalls in one push. Every visit is logged with its arrival, its departure and the salt put down: a per-push contract is billed from that log, and it is the record if someone slips.
Snow hauling
A loader fills dump trucks from the piles that are taking up parking stalls, and the snow goes to a dump or melt site. It is booked after the storm, often at night while the lot is empty.
